First Congregational Church Day Care & Nursery, Inc.
March 2009 Newsletter

Thank you all for the prayers and support you gave me throughout my mother’s illness.  It is a sad time for me, and
my family. She will be missed dearly.  I appreciate the comfort and strength that I have been able to draw from you
and your children.

The calendar says winter will soon be over which is a good thing since I think we are ready for spring.  We have
however enjoyed the sledding, mountain climbing and snow-building opportunities the snow offers.  The teachers did
an impressive job teaching and helping children master the tedious dressing skills needed for all that winter gear.  If
you are thinking you can put them away, not so fast.  Unfortunately, even when the snow and ice are gone, we are
presented with something even more challenging for us to deal with but that the children love to explore– lots and
lots of squishy mud.

Though paths and bridges will be created to help manage it, we will encounter mud on our playground for some time
as the ground thaws and the rain falls. Therefore, please keep boots and snow pants here for outside play during
March.  The children love the opportunities that the March mud and puddles present and snow pants will help to
keep them warm and dry.  It is exciting but messy stuff, so please be patient with us!  We will try to keep it under
control as much as possible, and will happily send home all winter gear, as soon as the mud is gone.  Also, once
again, please replenish the extra clothes bags, especially with a few pairs of socks!

March is a pretty busy month around here.  The second week of March is “movement” week.  The children will have
the chance to move from classroom to classroom as they participate in various activities.  Each classroom will set up
a theme that will be both fun and challenging, while providing learning opportunities that vary from child to child
depending on their interests and skills.

I hope you will be able to join us on Saturday, March 21st, for our Community/Spring Fundraising Event.  “Huga
Tuga”, will be here to sing and entertain children and their families as he plays his music and reads his story in the
Parish Hall.  The show will be from 10:15 a.m. to 11:00 but doors will open at 9:30 so you can have time to purchase
popcorn, water or juice and get settled.  Tickets can be purchased at the door.  Admission is $5.00 per person or
$20.00 per family.   You are welcome to bring friends, family and neighbors, as we will have room for all.  Children
love this Saturday social event here at school with their friends and family, enjoying the strong relationships being
built in our own little community.  It should be a lot of fun for everyone, Parents interested in helping with the event
can indicate when and what they would like to help with, on the sheet that will be posted on the bulletin board above
the sign-in desk.

Cheshire schools will be closed on Friday, March 20rh  for Professional Development. 5’s room parents, please let
Ms. Cindy know if your child will be coming that day.  She has posted an extra-care sign-up sheet so that those who
need daycare that day can register.  Sign-up forms for the April break will be included in the April newsletter.

We continue to work hard to complete the necessary documentation and policy revisions in preparation for our re-
accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).  We have completed the
self-study portion of the re-accreditation process and have submitted our Candidacy Report.  We are now waiting for
notification of approximately when our site visit will occur.

I should have confirmation letters and next year’s enrollment forms out soon.  We would prefer if you would wait to
complete the enrollment form until later in the year since children usually experience many developmental strides as
the months go on.  You can go ahead and send in the other forms when you have them.  In April, information about
our summer program will also be available.  As always, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns,
and Happy Spring!
