1st Church Preschool Newsletter
APRIL 2011
It looks like spring is slowly arriving. We have been taking some spring walks and identifying some of the
wonderful signs of spring. Hopefully, warmer weather is on its way and snow pants, gloves and mittens can soon
go home. Boots can remain here a bit longer since they are still needed for mud from time to time. Please
remember to add spring clothes to extra clothing bags. Don’t forget to check the sizes as children have probably
grown a bit since the fall.
Thank you to the parents and teachers for participating in our Indoor Work Day. We were able to paint our
entrance way, the center space, the bathroom, touch up some areas in the classrooms, and do some spring
cleaning. It gave our preschool space a much needed sprucing up!
I hope you will be able to join us on Saturday, April 2nd, for our Community/Spring Fundraising Event. “Amazing
Andy,” the magician, will be in the Parish Hall to entertain children and their families with his magical talents. The
show will be from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. but doors will open at 10:30 so you can have time to purchase
popcorn and drinks, as well as tickets for our Take-A-Chance Drawing ($1.00 each or 15 for $10.00). Our
fundraising committee has received many donations from local businesses. Admission is $5.00 per person or
$20.00 per family and can be paid at the door. Please bring friends, family and neighbors, and help support our
school. Children love this Saturday social event here at school with their friends and family, enjoying the strong
relationships being built in our own little community. It should be a lot of fun for everyone.
Our First Open House will be held in conjunction with the Community Event. We will open the school from 9:30 a.
m. to 12:30 p.m. for families from Cheshire and the surrounding communities to have a chance to meet our staff
and learn about our preschool program.
Our NAEYC reaccreditation site visit took place on Wednesday, March 30th. All went well and we should hear the
result within the next few weeks.
April vacation week is just around the corner. Our Preschool program will be closed Monday, April 18th through
Friday, April 22nd. If needed, morning or full day Optional-care is available Monday through Thursday from 8:00
a.m. to 5:30 p.m. We are closed Friday in observance of Good Friday. Please fill out the form included in this
newsletter and return it as soon as possible. We need at least 6 children enrolled each day in order to run the
program. Karen, Lisa, Audra, and Cindy will be in the 4’s Room with a mixed age group of children. It is a low-key,
but fun-filled week. You will be billed for days that you sign up for. You may use your snow day credit toward
optional week payment. We really do need an accurate number in advance so we can have appropriate
coverage so please return your form as soon as possible.
Also, during the month of April we will be participating in the “Pennies for Patients” program to raise money for
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. A representative from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will kickoff the 2
week fundraiser with a brief classroom presentation geared toward preschoolers. It is a simple talk about how we
can help children that are ill by raising money to provide them with doctors and medications that they need to
make them feel better.
Soon, we will begin the self-portrait drawings for the creation of our much loved 1st Church t-shirts. Drawings will
be displayed and an order sheet for child and adult sizes will be posted later in April. Teachers will be working
on final Performance Standards and Assessments and opportunities for spring conferences will be available in
May.
Summer program plans are beginning to take shape as we look ahead to the end of the school year. Information
and registration forms for this separate program will be available mid-April for those of you who are interested.
Summer program is open to all children currently in the 3’s, 4’s and Pre-K programs. Kindergarteners may only
attend the first week as Darcey Kindergarten will still be in session due to all the snow days. It is also open to
preschoolers not currently enrolled if we have space. The program will run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday,
June 20th through Friday, August 12th. We are closed Monday, July 4th. You can sign up for a minimum of 2
mornings for 2 weeks or up to 5 full days for 8 weeks. If you have questions please see me.
Enjoy all the beautiful colors of spring!
