EMERGENCY LOCK DOWN PROCEDURES
If it is determined by the Director, teachers or staff that there is eminent danger to students or staff, Emergency
Evacuation Procedures should be followed. If evacuation procedures cannot be followed these procedures will
be used:
- Director or Head Teacher will press Panic Button which will contact the alarm company Monitor Controls –
269-3591. The Director or Head Teacher will communicate emergency to the Cheshire Police Department,
and Director or Head Teacher, will also quickly communicate threat of danger to all classroom teachers (Panic
Buttons are tested quarterly).
- classroom doors and windows will be closed and locked
- blinds or shades will be left up enabling emergency personnel to see in.
- attendance will be taken by Head Teachers to be sure all students are accounted for.
- students will be released when threat of danger has passed
- all students will be kept away from glass and doors and will remain in the safest area possible in the classroom
- all attempts will be made to keep children calm and quiet
- once appropriate emergency personnel have secured the space, they will notify Director and staff
NATURAL DISASTER PROCEDURES
In the event of a threat to student or staff safety due to tornado, flood, severe storm, weather related emergency
or natural disaster, the following procedure should be followed:
- If it is determined that students and staff could evacuate the premises safely the Emergency Evacuation
Procedures should be followed.
- If it is determined that unsafe conditions exist outside the building, students and staff should remain in their
classrooms.
