1st Church Summer Program
                                                    Summer Field Trips 2010
    1st Church Summer Program will be going on a number of field trips during our summer program.  We will be
    using staff vehicles for transportation and will probably need 1 or 2 parent volunteers to drive and chaperone as
    well.  If you are interested and available please let me know as soon as possible. Children should wear their First
    Church Preschool t-shirts on field trip days as well as socks and sneakers.  Please be sure to apply sunscreen
    and bug spray before leaving them each morning. Don’t forget to leave a labeled car seat for you child.  Checks
    are payable to 1st Church Preschool --Thank You

    Week 1 – June 21st – June 25th
            Theme – Commotion In the Ocean
    We are heading to the First Church beach.  We will build sand castles and enjoy the water tables as we begin a
    summer of fun.  We will learn about animals that live in the ocean and create some beautiful sea creatures for our
    summer bulletin board.

    Week 2 – June 28th – July 2nd
            Theme – Pirate Ship
    Sail across waters searching for hidden treasures and valuables.  We will follow a map and search the island for
    the buried treasure marked by the “X”.
    Field trip - Wednesday, June 30th 2010
    Kid City Museum - Middletown, CT
    Admission:  $8.00 for children and adults.  
    9:30am departure – 12:00 noon return
    Explore their pirate ship and space and transportation room.


    Week 3 – July 5th – 9th (Closed Monday)
            Theme – Pizza Restaurant
    We will learn the art of pizza making and create different types of pizza for snack throughout the week.


    Week 4 – July 12th – 16th
            Theme – Use Your Imagination
    We will explore more with water play, bubbles, music, and more.
    Field Trip – Wednesday, July 14th
    Imagine Nation Museum - Bristol, CT
    Admission:  $7.00
    9:00am departure – 12:00 noon return
    Hands on interactive children’s museum with lots of fun activities to explore and interesting things to learn about.


    Week 5 – July 19th – 23rd
            Theme – Ice Cream Shop
    We will create sweet summer treats including homemade ice cream, pudding pops, and some good old fashion ice
    cold lemonade.


    Week 6 – July 26th – 30th
            Theme – Dinosaurs
    Field trip – Wednesday, July 28th
    The Children's Museum - West Hartford, CT
    Admission: $10
    9:00 am departure - 12 noon return
    We will become paleontologists and dig for bones and fossils as we explore the world of long ago.  We will learn
    about the plant eaters, the meat eaters, and the famous T-Rex.

      
    Week 7 – August 2nd – 6th
            Theme – Trains
    All Aboard the 1st Church Express!  We will convert the room into a train station and take rides to far away places
    – including our Dramatic Play MacDonald’s. We will also build tracks and cities of all kinds for the trains to visit.


    Week 8 – August 9th – 13th
            Theme – Zoo Veterinarian
    We will learn about animals big and small, Grooming and caring for pets, including their very own pet rock.
    Field Trip – Wednesday, August 11th
    Beardsley Zoo - Bridgeport, CT
    9am departure – 1:00pm return Admission/carousel ride - $9.00
    Children will see more than 300 animals; visit the rainforest, the Prairie Dog exhibit with pop up viewing areas, and
    the New England farmyard with goats, cows, pigs, sheep, and other barnyard critters.
